K-2 Nurturing

While the AIG identification process formally begins in grade 3, students in kindergarten through grade 2 may receive informal services from the AIG team.

These experiences are provided to all students, and are not a predictor of future gifted nominations.

Grade 3 explorers

All third grade students are a part of the WCPSS Explorers program. The AIG team will visit classes to practice activities students will later be exposed to in a state mandated screening process. This screening is one way we begin to look for students with high potential. Please understand that being a part of the Explorers program does not mean a student is being formally considered for AIG, nor is the screening the only entry to the AIG program.

SPRING Nominations are now closed.

While you may nominate a child anytime, requests are considered at the next window, which will be Fall 2024.

GradeS 4 & 5

Some of our students have been formally identified as candidates for gifted education support by this time. Identified students will receive support services from the AIG team. Classroom teachers continue to meet student needs by differentiating curriculum in the regular classroom. AIG services may include pull-out groups, and/or direct support in the classroom. The identification process continues, and new students may be added to the program throughout the year.

Single subject acceleration

Students meeting qualifying criteria in grades K-7 can take advanced academic content in mathematics or English Language Arts through Single Subject Acceleration (SSA). This ensures opportunities for appropriate levels of academic challenge. Only students who are currently enrolled and attending a WCPSS school during

the open nomination and testing window are eligible to be considered for SSA. Please consult with your child’s classroom teacher to discuss whether your child may be a good candidate for the SSA program.

SSA Testing takes place during the second semester of the school year.

If you are interested in the Single-Subject Acceleration program, you may request testing

in Mathematics, or English Language Arts, beginning April 1st.

SSA TEST REQUEST FORM (accessible between 4/1-4/12)

SSA testing will take place between April 22-May 6.
